Long-Range Planning Committee

Function

The Long Range Planning Committee is responsible for understanding the processes and actions needed to achieve the strategic goals of the society. It also determines what is needed to develop and progress the society whilst responding to a changing environment, the needs of its membership and the wider natural history collections community.  The committee ensures that strategic planning continues to support the activities and guides the direction of SPNHC. 

Leadership and Composition 

The committee is made up of between 10-15 active members which includes the SPNHC President-elect. The President-elect co-chairs this committee with a longer standing LRP committee member to ensure continuity and progress.  

Duties 

Committee activities include:  

  • Survey members and analyse results to inform the strategic planning process for the society. 
  • Update the strategic plan every 5 years. Seek approval and sign off from council before implementation.  
  • Liaise with all SPNHC committee chairs to evaluate progress and needs to deliver the strategic plan.  
  • Work with the other committees to meet the goals of the society and serve our membership. 

 Calendar items 

Annual meeting: 

  • Present report on findings at annual meetings 
  • Submit reports to Fall and Spring Newsletters 
  • Members survey (every five years) Feb 2023  
  • Revise strategic plan (every 5 years) Aug 2023 
  • Launch strategic plan every 5 years June 2024
