The Denver Museum of Nature & Science seeks an Assistant Collections Manager in the Integrative Collections Branch to manage the Late Cretaceous Madagascar Vertebrate Collections. This position is funded for three years by the National Science Foundation ICBR 2242716 grant. This position supports the collections and research activities of the Earth Sciences Department as it curates a taxonomically diverse, scientifically valuable, and well cared for collection of specimens. The Earth Sciences Collections currently hold approximately 2M specimens and specimen lots in the areas of Vertebrate Paleontology, Invertebrate Paleontology, Paleobotany, Palynology, Rocks, Meteorites, Minerals, and Micromounts.

The Earth Sciences Department seeks to document and preserve the biodiversity of the Late Cretaceous fossil vertebrates of Madagascar, by preparing, conserving, digitizing, cataloging, and rehousing this collection of approximately 25,000 specimens in preparation for 50% of the specimens and all holotypes to be returned to the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar. This Late Cretaceous fossil vertebrate collection (which includes all major clades and ranges from tiny fish fossils to large dinosaur bones) has been the subject of 118 peer-reviewed scientific journals and four monographic volumes. This position facilitates efforts to preserve and protect the collections on a long-term basis, to increase access and grow scientific output, to manage and expand collections, and to help inspire diverse communities’ understanding of, and involvement in, biodiversity and the natural world. DMNS is especially interested in candidates whose background and experience have prepared them to contribute to our commitments to co-create a museum-wide DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion) strategy, and to find ways for diverse communities to engage with the Museum in meaningful ways.

This position reports to the Earth Sciences Collections Manager.
This is a 3 year term position ending 2/5/2026.
