New Jersey State Museum, Trenton
Under the general supervision of the Curator of Natural History in the State Museum, NJ Department of State, plans and implements natural history collection research, cataloging, care, and management, and plans and implements field research projects; initiates, plans, researches, implements, and evaluates exhibitions on natural history subjects; seeks, researches, and administers traveling exhibitions from other museums and museum service agencies for presentation at the New Jersey State Museum; researches funding sources from corporations, foundations, governmental agencies, and individuals; does other related duties as required.
Full-time, some evenings and weekends. Salary range: $69,579.06-$98,899.62.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in a natural or physical science.
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of natural history field and laboratory experience, one (1) year of which shall have involved performing curatorial duties related to collecting, researching and exhibiting natural history specimens in a museum, college/university, or science center.
NOTE: Appointment to this title may be made Provisionally, pending the outcome of an Open-Competitive examination (PAOC). If selected for this position and appointed PAOC, you will be required to apply for the open-competitive examination, when issued by the Civil Service Commission for this title, pass and be reachable on the resulting eligible list to become permanent in the position. Appointees who fail to be reachable on the resulting CSC eligible list are subject to removal.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the duties of the position.
RESIDENCY LAW: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act,” which became effective September 1, 2011, all persons newly hired by the Executive Branch on or after that date shall have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey. New Jersey State employees hired prior to September 1, 2011 who transfer from within the Executive Branch or from another State of New Jersey appointing authority without a break in service greater than seven days but who reside outside the State of New Jersey are not required to change their principal residence to New Jersey in order to comply with the act.
