Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH) seeks an experienced, full-time Associate Objects Conservator, Temporary to join our conservation department and work in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience working with archaeological materials, ideally wood, and a degree in conservation, or equivalent experience. During this two-year position, the Associate Objects Conservator will join a project team working to deinstall and conserve objects from the museum’s Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt.

This temporary, Full-Time position is eligible for the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh’s many Benefits.
Expected starting pay range, based on experience, $45,000-52,000

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Conservation with a specialty in objects and 3+ years of post-graduate experience working with archaeological materials, or equivalent experience required.
  • Ideal candidates will have experience with archaeological wood.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience researching the preservation of archaeological materials preferred.
  • Treatment practice and documentation must be of an exceptionally high standard.
  • The position requires a focused individual who can work independently, as well as part of a cohesive team.
