Collections, Exhibits, and Outreach Coordinator manages the collections of the Mace Brown Museum of Natural History (the Museum) and the Department of Geology & Environmental Geosciences (the Department). Collection management responsibilities include organizing and cataloging new and preexisting specimens, coordinating specimen loans and visits from external researchers, fossil preparation, training and supervising volunteer fossil preparators, molding and casting, assisting in the digitization of specimens, and overseeing operation of the 3D printer.

Manages museum collections and departmental teaching materials. Maintains careful chain-of-custody / point-of-origin research, inspection, and organization electronic data entry. Oversees maintenance of materials for proper upkeep and replacement. Plans and organizes materials in displays or for other usage. Keeps thorough inventory of resources. Develops processes for and oversees supervision and usage of materials/samples.

Oversees and coordinates collection expansion to vary with seasonal conditions. Collaborates in preparation of collected fossil material and assists with excavation and collection in the field. Digitizes museum specimens, growing the existing digital specimen collection, and oversees the operation of the 3-D printers.

Manages and schedules student workers in the Department, including docents and class/lab assistants. Documents and tracks visitor activity and education services provided to the public (tours, hosting educational group visits, coordinating off-campus activities relating to the Department and its programs). Trains and supervises lab volunteers, and prepares logistics for various volunteer programs.

Promotes and publicizes news and events utilizing various social media and other media resources. Develops, designs and disseminates newsletters, web pages, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, multi-media presentations, and group email correspondence. Works closely with Institutional Advancement and the Marketing & Communications offices to develop marketing communication pieces, invitations, seminar announcements, press releases, etc.

Supports departmental office manager and chairperson with day-to-day operational activities. Manages reporting of departmental program activities, preparation of proposals for grant applications, manages departmental volunteer and visiting scholars program related to the Museum and the Department’s public engagement activities.
