Successful applicants will have one (1) year of experience, including data entry and record-building, with a relational database (EMu or TMS), as well as a Master’s degree from or current enrollment in an accredited college or university graduate program in Museum Studies or a related discipline. Additional experience with one of the disciplines associated with each collecting bureau is preferred but not required:

Bureau of Fine Art: art history or visual arts
Bureau of Natural History: geology, paleontology, or zoology

The successful candidate will also demonstrate the following knowledge/abilities:

  • Knowledge of the resources used in a museum serving individuals of varying interests
  • Knowledge of the proper methods of handling scientific, historic and cultural artifacts
  • Knowledge of the scholarly methods used to identify, catalog and inventory museum artifacts
  • Ability to prepare accurate and complete catalog files
  • Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to Jenny Martin-Wicoff, Registrar for the Bureau of Fine Art, electronically at jenny.martin@sos.nj.gov by Thursday, December 10. If an applicant is interested in a particular Bureau, it should be noted in the cover letter.
