Summary

These positions are located in Harpers Ferry Center, in the Museum Conservation Services and Collections Program a the Harpers Ferry Center. This program works in close collaboration with parks to conserve museum collections in support of the National Park Service mission.This position conserves artifacts that represent our cultural heritage an have significant monetary as well as historical value.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Responsibilities

As a Conservator you will:

  • Perform the full range of professionally accepted conservation work.
  • Assesses cultural conservation concerns in a variety of settings and involving a variety of museum materials, e.g., paper, books, photographs, textiles, wooden objects, metal objects. ethnographic materials, organic artifacts, armaments, mechanical artifacts, decorative art objects, etc.
  • Make preservation decisions that preserves and maximizes the useful lifespan of museum objects.
  • Communicate technical and topical issues.
  • Carrying out complex assignments by protecting museum materials and ensuring their proper storage, handling, conservation, and exhibition.

Travel Required

25% or less – You may be expected to travel for this position.
