Position Focus:
The Yale Peabody Museum is currently undergoing a complete renovation and expansion with an expected construction completion date in late 2022/early 2023, and a planned reopening to the public in early 2024. The scheduled hours of this position will fluctuate according to the renovation project and planned reopening of the museum in 2024.
Under the supervision of the Head of Security for the Peabody Museum, the Control Room Officer 2 is an essential employee who enforces the museum’s policies and procedures with respect to the operation, security, and safety of the museum, its possessions, and occupants. Ensures the safety of visitors, staff, and collections while contributing to create a welcoming environment. Provides high level support for the necessary security monitoring of museum spaces, collections, exhibits. Responds to and documents all security incidents and emergencies.
Essential responsibilities and duties (including, but not limited to): Opening, securing, and closing the Peabody Museum and rooms or areas of affiliation according to operating schedule and department procedures. Operation of security control room as the emergency command post for the museum. Monitoring museum spaces and multiple locations using a complex video surveillance system. Responsible for operating and monitoring security alarm panels, access control systems, key management systems, visitor management systems, and other related systems. Coordinate dispatch of security or other personnel to alarm or trouble locations. Check for suspicious occurrences and report all violations promptly. Make notifications to alarm monitoring stations, supervisor, and appropriate parties. Serves as a member of the museum’s emergency response team. Responsible for knowing all emergency evacuation routes and procedures and be able to execute instructions under all emergency situations. Remain current on all University, museum and Peabody Museum Security Department policies, rules and procedures, for the operation, security and safety of the museum, its collections, and occupants. Respond to all situations and requests by communicating calmly, respectfully, with great customer service, and maintain a high level of professionalism. Remain in constant communication with officers and supervisor on site to disseminate and receive information. Maintain logs and records of occurrences, complete necessary reports, and utilize appropriate software to input and retrieve data. Complete various training and certification programs on an on-going basis. Be proficient with computers, email, and software functions. Will be required to become proficient on all present and future security related equipment, technology and software. Will be required to work overtime hours, or outside of scheduled hours for training sessions or due to operational need. Provide security coverage during staff/contractor operating hours, public/Yale community operating hours, and special event, and holiday coverage. Perform additional related duties as assigned. May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts.
Principal Responsibilities: 1. Enforces the University’s security rules and protects the property and safety of persons on campus. Remains constantly alert for threats to persons and to the property being protected. 2. Maintains a security watch and safeguards areas by viewing and operating central security surveillance systems. Monitors CRT graphic screens to examine and respond to control alarms, and top detect and report street or property crimes. 3. Acknowledges event, enters response logs and journals into computerized system, and prepares daily and historic reports used for making management decisions regarding area security status. 4. Maintains radio and intercom communications with other Control Rooms to report suspicious activities and maintain visual surveillance of areas. 5. Cooperates with police, fire and other authorities in reporting problems affecting safety and security of persons and property, and in preparing necessary reports. 6. Searches data base access controls, status reports, site design screens, and elevator configurations to determine alarm locations, alarm status, and access eligibility. Updates and revises access codes and settings as necessary. 7. Permits authorized personnel to enter property. Determines admission and records entrance of students, faculty and staff who have forgotten their I.D. cards. Arranges for Security Attendant back up when they leave their post, and monitors time spent away from post. 8. Arranges for investigation if trouble is suspected. Will be required to fill in for Security Attendant I as staffing needs dictate. Issues and controls keys. 9. Performs additional functions incidental to security activities.
Required Education and Experience:
Four years of related work experience in security, law enforcement, military police, or customer service and a high-school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. CT Guard Card Certification required and must be maintained as condition of employment.

Physical Requirements
Ability to walk up many flights of stairs and do extensive walking, sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Ability to walk to and from several buildings.
