JOB SUMMARY:
Manages the day-to -day operation of the Campbell Natural history museum, including preparation, maintenance, display and curation of all vertebrate specimens.
JOB DUTIES:
50% – Essential – Curation:
Identifies, labels, files, and fumigates specimens. Collects and solicits new specimen materials. Prepares, repairs, cleans, and ensures appropriate maintenance and storage of specimens.
20% – Essential – Collection Growth and Development:
Plans growth and development of all collections. Directs access to collections and organizes loans and exchanges. Manages accession, catalog and computerized records for each specimen. Maintains licenses, vertebrate salvage permits, and endangered species permits. Contributes to development of exhibits based on specimen displays. Writes annual activity reports.
15% – Essential – Public Service:
Facilitates use of specimens for Clemson University courses and researchers. Provides natural history presentations and tours of facilities. Demonstrates preservation techniques. Identifies vertebrate remains. Contributes to development of internet/web-based information on collections.
15% – Essential – Professional Development, Consultation, and Research:
Maintains competence in areas of classification, taxonomy, collections management, and specimen preparation. Develops references and reprints libraries. Attends professional
meetings, seminars and workshops. Maintains membership in professional organizations.
Consults with faculty and graduate research assistants to develop research protocols and directs execution when collecting in the field or when collections are used.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree in history, museology or a related field and related experience.
