The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is looking for a Curator of Paleobotany/Ichnology
Position
The Curator of Paleobotany, or Ichnology, is to conduct research in support of the newly formed Arctic Paleontology Center of Excellence, and be an advocate of paleontology to the public in a manner that is beneficial to the mission of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct research that explores the fossil record in a means compatible with the goals of the Arctic Paleontology Center of Excellence
- Engage in a field-based research program that helps build the collections of the PMNS
- Curate specimens that are obtained as part of that research
- Supervise post-doctoral fellow
- Develop a funding strategy to advance research agenda
- Manage research budget
- Build professional relationships with appropriate academic partners
- Represent the museum at professional meetings
- Promote the Museum in the local community, and the global scientific community
- Provide fossil specimen identifications to the public
- Serve as a primary resource for the scientific accuracy of appropriate PMNS education and exhibit programs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Education/Experience: Terminal graduate degree in appropriate field; knowledge of plant anatomy, ecology and taxonomy essential; or knowledge of continental trace fossil morphology, ecology, and taxonomy essential
Skills/Abilities: Good public speaking skills are mandatory. Various preparation techniques, field methods, communication skills, organizational skills, writing skills, computer skills and public speaking important
Working Conditions:
Job Conditions/Work Location: Ear protection and/or mask may be required. Work location: office, fossil preparation laboratory, warehouse, remote fieldwork, overnight travel often necessary.
Physical Requirements: Outdoor, rugged work for extended periods and lifting heavy objects often required.
Equipment Operated: Computers, field vehicles, various power tools.
