The Knowledge department has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person with a passion for collections-based science and a desire to share BC’s outstanding paleontology collection with the world!
The Paleontology collection includes large fossil holdings from the Cenozoic and Mesozoic eras with additional holdings from the Paleozoic and Neoproterozoic eras. The BC Eoscene Epoch is particularly well represented through the recent acquisition of 18,000 of the most diverse and well preserved specimens of this period in the world. The Museum also holds a small minerology and rock collection
Responsibilities: An understanding of British Columbia paleontology and geoscience is desirable. The ideal person will have a minimum of 4 years’ museum experience (or similar) and proven experience conducting original paleontological research with an emphasis on public-facing outputs. You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable presenting to a wide range of audiences as well as building stakeholder relationships relating to paleontology and the museum. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage fossil acquisitions generated by the Province’s Fossil Management Framework as well as provide a vision for and development of a major paleontology strategy for the RBCM.
Qualifications: An advanced degree in paleontology with an emphasis on systematics is required. Candidates at the Doctoral level are encouraged but exceptional Master’s level candidates may be considered (at a lower salary).
