Get Involved

If you work with natural history collections, or if you are interested in natural history, SPNHC wants you to get involved.

There are several ways to get involved with the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections. Donations are always welcome and help the Society achieve its goals, but the most important thing to do is to JOIN and Become a Member.

Membership gives you access to a lively, active interdisciplinary community of professionals dedicated to the care of natural history collections. SPNHC has 800 members from more than 30 countries across the globe. Its members are made up of museum specialists such as curators, conservators, research scientists, data managers, educators, archivists and many other disciplines within the natural sciences.

  • The society hosts annual meetings, sponsors symposia and workshops to encourage
    the exchange of ideas and information.
  • Publishes the peer reviewed journal, Collections Forum, and the SPNHC Connection
    newsletter.
  • Hosts the NHCOLL-L listserv.
  • Provides training resources (YouTube SPNHC channel, SPNHC wiki).
  • Promotes collections standards and best practices.
  • Provides grants and awards for travel and research.
  • Mentors and supports Emerging Professionals.
  • Advocates for natural history collections.
