Description
The Beneski Museum of Natural History invites applications for the Museum Technician position. The Museum Technician is a part-time (up to 19 hours per week), year round, casual position without benefits. The Museum Technician safely handles, cleans and maintains paleontological and geological specimens and exhibits; maintains and services museum displays and gallery spaces; and designs, fabricates and/or adjusts object mounts. The technician takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

- Design, fabricate, and adjust object mounts for display, storage, and shipping
- Specimen cleaning and maintenance
Qualifications
Required
- Strong written and verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to safely handle delicate objects; manual dexterity
- Work independently and as a part of a team
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and lift test
Preferred
- 2 years of experience working in museum preparation, conservation or collections care
- Carpentry, plexi-glass fabrication, metal fabrication, machining and/or mechanical skills
Environmental and Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. and occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
- Close visual concentration/manual dexterity
- Ascending/descending ladders
- Repetitive motions including hands, arms, fingers, wrists
- Safe operation of power tools
- Movements including reaching, bending, and stooping
