The Department of Botany (Herbarium W), Natural History Museum Vienna, Austria, seeks an additional team member. The role is that of a Research Associate, specifically, a curator for the seed plants and fern collection. Knowledge of the Austrian and Neotropical flora, and knowing your way around an herbarium are a plus.

The staff of the Natural History Museum Vienna preserves, researches, and presents its extensive collections in a building designed as a comprehensive work of art. It showcases the diversity of nature, the evolution of planet Earth and life, and the related cultural development of mankind and offers an inspiring meeting place for diverse interactions. The earliest collections are over 250 years old. Today, approximately 30 million objects are curated to scientific standards.

Housing about 5 million objects, the botanical collection of the NHM is one of the largest herbaria in the world. One goal is to use the collections to further research and to make them increasingly available and usable digitally. In addition, we are currently developing a concept for representing the botanical collection as part of the NHM’s publicly accessible, permanent exhibition halls.
