The Department of Ichthyology at the American Museum of Natural History, New York, seeks a full time Scientific Assistant who will contribute to collection care and maintenance. Primary responsibilities will include identifying, accessioning, and cataloguing incoming marine and freshwater fish collections, assisting with the department’s frozen tissue collection, and database entry. Other duties include specimen preservation, assisting with dry and wet skeletal preparations, loan processing, radiography, and general collection care and maintenance. Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BA/BSc in biology or related field is required.
- Museum experience, specifically a background in fish systematics, anatomy, and specimen preparation, and computer skills are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with integrated pest management techniques is a plus.
- The successful applicant will be expected to have good manual dexterity and time-management skills.
Hours: 35 hours/week
