We’re pleased to share several important updates about the SPNHC 2026 Annual Conference, including an extension of the abstract submission deadline to May 31 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
This historic meeting—the first SPNHC Conference to be held on the African continent—will take place September 7–11, 2026, in Cape Town, South Africa, and will be hosted by Iziko Museums South Africa. Details at https://spnhc.org/spnhc-2026-south-africa/
Thank you to everyone who has already submitted an abstract. We’ve received a strong response to the Call for Abstracts, and because this is a busy time of year, we wanted to offer a little more time for additional submissions.
Abstract Submission — Now Due May 31
The 2026 program will feature 16 sessions and symposia, all of which are accepting abstract submissions. Abstracts may be submitted through Oxford Abstracts, and the available sessions are listed at the bottom of the online submission form.
We encourage you to share your research, join the conversation, and submit your abstract by the extended deadline.
Early registration rates are available through June 30 for SPNHC members, non-members, and students. Discounted pricing is also offered for participants from lower-income nations and for those based in South Africa.
Can’t attend in person? A virtual registration option is available, with the flexibility to upgrade to in-person registration at any time.
Travel Grants — Deadline June 1
SPNHC is offering travel grants for the 2026 Annual Meeting. Applicants must be members of the Society or apply for membership before submitting. Preference will be given to students and emerging professionals focused on the physical care, management, or preservation of natural history collections, as well as to applicants presenting at the conference.
