Professorship (W3) for Systematic Zoology (Chair)

A professorship (W3) for systematic zoology (chair) has been appointed at the Faculty of Biology on April 1, 2023. The professorship is associated with the duties of a director (m/f/d) of the Bavarian State Collection for Zoology. We are looking for an experienced scientist (m/f/d) with strong management and leadership qualities and a broad network in the collection and university environment. The successful applicant (m/f/d) will advance the strategic development of the collection, especially with regard to the digital transformation and cooperation with university partners. Further requirements include experience in collection-related research and third-party funding. A research focus in a field of systematic zoology is expected, an integration of research into a planned research cluster “Adaptations to changing environments” is an advantage. The professorship is involved in teaching in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the Faculty of Biology.

The Faculty of Biology is located in the Biozentrum of the High-Tech Campus Martinsried together with other life sciences from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), the Max Planck Society and the Helmholtz Zentrum München. Service units for high-performance computing, genomics, bioanalytics, electron microscopy, light microscopy, proteomics and metabolomics are available within the Faculty of Biology.

The LMU would like to recruit an outstanding personality who has proven scientific qualifications after completing a university degree and an above-average doctorate or a comparable special qualification through internationally visible, excellent achievements in research and teaching. If you are hired as a civil servant, you must not have reached the age of 52 at the time of appointment. Exceptions to this can be made in urgent cases.

The LMU offers support for dual career couples.

The LMU is striving to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages female scientists to apply.
