Job description: The successful candidate will coordinate and conduct research on Qatar’s paleoenvironment and associated fossil plant and animal assemblages, and on QM’s dinosaur collection for scientific input into exhibition planning. He/she will take curatorial responsibility for QM’s global collections of fossils and their conservation, build and maintain a national paleontological collection, plan the conservation of Qatar’s fossil wealth, as part of a national heritage conservation program, and organize temporary and permanent exhibitions. He/she will plan and deliver paleontological training to docents and other natural history staff.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Education and certification requirements – Advanced degree, usually Ph.D. in geological and/or biological sciences with specialization in vertebrate paleontology
Experience required
- At least five years work experience as a palaeontologist (paleontological field and laboratory research, museum exhibitions and fossil conservation)
- Innovative research agenda in vertebrate palaeontology
- Outstanding research record, documented by publication
- Experience of working with museum collections, including paleontological curation
