Managing Editor

Function:  As stipulated in the SPNHC Bylaws:

ARTICLE VI.  OFFICERS

Section 1.
Executive Officers. The executive officers shall be the President, the Past President, the President-Elect, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Managing Editor of the Society’s publications. Executive officers are required to be Regular, Honorary or Life Members in good standing.

Section 5.
The Managing Editor of the Society’s publications shall be responsible for obtaining reviews, selecting and editing copy, layout, printing, distribution, and any other functions necessary to get material to the members in a timely fashion. The Managing Editor shall be appointed by the President with the approval of a majority of the Council Members.

The …Managing Editor shall be appointed for a two-year term, repeatable consecutively unlimited times.

Duties
The Managing Editor (ME) oversees the Society’s publications, which include Collection Forum (journal of SPNHC), SPNHC Connection (newsletter of SPNHC), SPNHC Book Reviews, SPNHC Leaflets (short, online technical notes) and any new or revisionary book projects. As Editor of Collection Forum, the Managing Editor solicits manuscripts to Collection Forum, oversees the review process, and ensures all manuscripts and figures are submitted to Allen Press. Specifically, the ME is responsible for encouraging submissions from SPNHC grantees, awardees and members, as well as authors from outside the organization; distributing submissions for review to Associate Editors (AE); and managing and overseeing copy editing, layout, printing, distribution, and any other functions necessary to distribute Collection Forum to the Society’s individual and institutional members on an annual basis.

The Managing Editor also coordinates with the Web and Social Media Committee Chairperson, the Membership Committee Chairperson, and Membership Access Liaison, and with Allen Press to facilitate public and member online access to SPNHC publications.

The Managing Editor is also the Chairperson of the Publications Committee (CPC). The Chairperson is responsible for directing and assisting with the activities of the Collection Forum Associate Editors (currently four), the SPNHC Connection Newsletter Editor, the Leaflets Editor, the Book Review Editor(s) (currently two), and Special Publication Editor(s),when present for book publications. The role of the Managing Editor (ME) for book projects is dictated by scope, scale, and collaborators in the project. The ME communicates with the Publications Committee to produce biannual reports on CPC activities for inclusion in the SPNHC Connection newsletter. With the assistance of the Production Assistant Editor, the Chairperson maintains a yearly budget, reviews and submits to the Treasurer invoices for publications and other related services, and maintains book inventory levels with second party vendors. The ME produces an annual report of all Publication Committee activities to present to the SPNHC Council and to the society at large during the Annual Business Meeting of the SPNHC annual conference.
