President-Elect is an elected executive officer position of the Society. Nomination and election rules are set out in the Bylaws. Position term is two years after which the President-Elect assumes the role of President of the Society for two years and Past President thereafter for a further two years – a six-year commitment. The President- Elect assumes duties of the President at the end of the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) at the annual conference.
Function: As stipulated in the SPNHC Bylaws:
ARTICLE VI. OFFICERS
Section 1.
Executive Officers. The executive officers shall be the President, the Past President, the President-Elect, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Managing Editor of the Society’s publications. Executive officers are required to be Regular, Honorary, or Life members in good standing.
Section 2.
The Past President and the President-Elect shall assist the President, shall be members of Council, and shall substitute for the President when necessary.
Section 7.
Vacancies.
Should the office of the President become vacant, the President-Elect shall become President. The President-Elect will complete the term of the President as well as the regular term of President for which the individual was elected.
Should the office of President-Elect become vacant, Council shall by majority vote, elect a council member to serve in an interim capacity until a replacement can be elected by the general membership, thus the following election may include candidates for the office of President-Elect and President.
Duties
The President-Elect is chair of the Conference Committee and Long-Range Planning Committee.
